Supreme Star - The Political Boss

Image
"Action!". screamed the man as the "Supreme Star" made his stylish entry wearing sun-glasses. The crowd started clapping even before his performance started. He was so close to humans that they never referred him as a "monkey". He jumped, climbed ropes, frightened and amused children. Coins and currency notes were flying at him. After the show of 15 min, the crowd left talking about his eclat. His owner collected all the money and gifted him tasty bananas.  "Have everyone arrived?". The lion interrogated. It was an important meeting to decide the next Chief Minister of the forest. Lion was accompanied by tiger and leopard to make the all important decision. "The present situation in our forest is the worst in our history", the lion started as everyone nodded in agreement. "Those who feel they are suitable for the post can come and seek their votes", the lion left the stage for the animals to talk. The crowd was no...

Does Casting Your Vote Means Voting Your Caste

Image
Caste once again proved to be the major factor in determining the results of the elections in the five Indian states. The major part of the electoral arithmetic deals with the 'caste arithmetic' . This is slowly poisoning the democracy and there is a big need to address the nescience of caste arithmetic among the Indians.  . Caste - Not a Haste:     Many electoral experts say that the caste politics is essential to lift the power of democracy. To an extent it has been the reason for the Indian democracy travelling so long. The book 'Modernity and Tradition ' says the caste politics have  bought equity among the members of different castes by reducing their distinctions. Considering the history of our country, this statement has its own merits. The upper caste domination in political powers, that was seen during the time after independence, has slowly declined, thanks to the evolution of numerous regional parties across the country....

The Endangered Environment

Image
Pollution has always been a familiar word. Thanks to the school teachers who made the question important for all exams. While the marks scored using those questions have given a green signal to our careers, the same marks failed to show the red signal to the fact that we are enslaving the nature and have endangered our environment.   A newspaper report on air pollution in our country conveyed the hazardous pollution levels in our country. The gargantuan levels mentioned there haunted me to breathe and I was appalled that we still survive inhaling them. The report says 94  among 300+ cities surveyed across our country have violated the Air Quality Standards. 5 of them have trespassed the levels in both PM10 and NO2.  To feel how worse the level of pollution in our country is, I surfed through  aqicn.org  (which I suggest everyone of you to see, especially at peak traffic hours at night). I was shocked that no city was marked safe at that time . ...

Yoga Is A Practice Of Faith, Not Religion

Image
The second International Yoga Day was celebrated on  June 21st, 2016  in a grand manner. The Indian method of meditation has got an overwhelming response from different parts of the world. But it does not have the same reception in its own homeland. Few sections of the Indian society have opposed the celebration of yoga day. They see it as a religious practice of the Hindus and feel the inclusion of yoga into school curriculum will  be against their religious beliefs . But consider this: The Olympics is a  global sporting event  now, but a few centuries ago it was a  religious practice of the Greek culture . The Olympic Games were dedicated to the Greek god Zeus. The Olympic torch – an indispensable identity of Olympic Games – was initially associated with  the religious relic as well. Now, however, the  view of religion in Olympic torch has been removed for a while . It is the way for athletes from various corner...

Unusual Comparisons:Here Is Why India And China Are Ex-Lovers

Image
Some strange similarities you can find between India-China relationship and the relationship with your Ex-lover. The dilemma in relationships occurs in every person’s life. Every one of us gets a situation where we do not know  where exactly the relationship is  heading. We go searching for new environments so that the complications of the relationship don’t affect our progress. Countries are no exceptions to these complications. China and India seem to have similar complications and tagging them as Ex-lovers will not be foolish. Priority over others: When in a relationship the lover gets the top most priority among all the choices. A  mighty gain outside will appear small in front of small date  proposed by her(or him). Often this had led to the loss of careers of many. Jawaharlal Nehru  did something similar 5 decades ago... The Government's Permission Of The Culling Of Many Animals In The Country Has Created Quite An Uproar

Image
he Environment Ministry’s permission to ‘cull’ animals in few Indian states has got a mixed response across the country. Culling is an action where humans are allowed to  kill the animals that cause inconveniences legally . Farmers find it a curing medicine to the damages caused by wildlife, while wildlife activists see it as a curse to the rich wildlife in our country. This issue has got dividends within the Union Cabinet as Minister of Women and Child Development  Ms. Menaka Gandhi  has opposed Environmental Minister  Prakash Javadekar’s  order. Environmental Ministry has granted permission to ‘cull’  Rhesus macaque  (a monkey species) in  Himachal Pradesh  and  Nilgai  in  Bihar . Ms.Gandhi charged the Environmental Ministry saying, “The Environment Ministry here is writing to every state asking them which animal they want to kill and they will grant permission... If A Nuclear War Was To Start, Who Would Be The First To Fire?

Image
27 th  May saw a historical event. Obama became the first serving US President to visit  Hiroshima  after USA destroyed it in 1945. The Question of apology was completely grounded and the decision taken before 71 years stayed untouched. His gesture at the Memorial was something to be encouraged. He stated that nuclear arsenals should to be used as  “moral revolution” , rather than for  “base instinct of conquest”. These words coming from one of the World’s most powerful and influential men, can change the vision of nuclear arsenal around the world. What nuclear weapons did in the past is miserable. But here is a look on what nuclear weapons can do in the future.
